Acanthus Crest Pierced-Ring Onlay

A sweeping acanthus crest, mirrored around an open eye. This is a horizontal decorative onlay: a symmetrical spray of scrolling acanthus leaves and tight spiral volutes that flare outward from a central ring, with two heart-arched tendrils curling up to frame the open circle at its heart. The lower edge dips into a long, wave-like valance that ties the whole flourish together. Rendered in warm matte gold, the carving shows deep, confident relief, the leaves lifting off the ground and the spirals coiling in on themselves like the crest rail of a fine antique. The pierced central ring gives it a light, airy focal point rather than a solid boss. Print / CNC notes: • Runs best as a 3D relief carving in wood; a ball-nose finishing pass brings out the rolled leaf tips and the pierced ring cleanly. • The open circle needs a through-cut or a clearance pocket depending on whether you want it pierced or blind. • As a resin or FDM print, lay it flat on its back and support the undercut curls; print in halves if your bed is narrow. • Prime and gild, or stain to match existing timber, then wax the raised surfaces to catch the light. Symmetry makes it easy to mirror or repeat along a longer run of moulding.
