Acanthus Plume Leaf Onlay

A single sculpted plume, feathered from tip to tip. This slim vertical onlay is a stylised acanthus leaf drawn out into a long, pointed almond shape. A crisp raised spine runs the full height, and off it flare rows of curled, spoon-tipped lobes that overlap like feathers or flame-licks, mirrored top and bottom around a central crossing point. The relief swells highest along the rib and feathers down to the recessed ground, giving it a soft, hand-carved plumpness. It's the kind of vertical accent that dresses a stile, a pilaster, a door panel or the centre of a headboard, and it pairs beautifully in mirrored sets flanking a feature. CNC notes: • The overlapping lobe tips are shallow — a fine ball-nose (1.5–3 mm) on the finishing pass keeps them from blurring together. • Keep the machined depth modest; this reads best as a low, gently domed relief rather than a deep cut. • Straight-grained hardwood run vertically along the spine gives the cleanest lobe edges. • For appliqué use, machine a flat back or add a slim rebate so it sits flush on the host surface.
