Description

A symmetrical flourish of acanthus leaves unfurling from a central crest. This decorative onlay mirrors two sweeping scrolls outward from a rising palmette, each frond curling back on itself with layered leaf tips, beaded runners and small clusters of carved berries nestled at the middle. It is a classic cabinet-maker's motif — the kind of ornament that crowns a door panel, a headboard or a mantel — reworked here as a clean relief ready to carve or print. Use it as an applied appliqué: glue it onto furniture, mirror and picture frames, a fireplace surround, a bed crown or a cabinet door to lift plain flat stock into something that looks hand-carved and heirloom. Cut / print notes • On the CNC, rough with a 1/4" end mill then finish with a tapered ball-nose (1/8" or smaller) to catch the fine leaf veining and berry detail. • Cut in a tight-grained hardwood — maple, cherry, walnut or tulipwood — or a dense modelling board if you intend to paint or gild. • The piece is long and shallow, so mind your Z depth to keep the raised leaf tips crisp, and leave onion-skin tabs to hold it during the final pass. • 3D printing instead? Lay it face-up with no supports at 0.08–0.12mm layers, then prime and sand for a cast-plaster look.
