Description

A woodland squirrel caught mid-climb, carved in warm low relief. This CNC panel shows a bright-eyed little rodent — squirrel or dormouse — wrapped around the bend of a bare branch, its flowing striated fur running from a plump haunch down into a long tail that sweeps toward the lower edge. Above the animal, three broad leaves spread from a twig, and a single fat acorn hangs at the bottom left, anchoring the whole scene firmly in autumn. The board has a deliberately irregular, tapering outline, cut taller on one shoulder than the other, so it works as a corner bracket or an end-of-shelf ornament rather than a plain framed plaque. It suits anyone furnishing a rustic hallway, a study, or a country kitchen, and it makes a thoughtful piece for a nature lover or gardener. Cut it in oak or walnut and the grain lifts the fur texture beautifully. Print / cut notes: • The fur and leaf veining are the highlight — use a fine tapered ball-nose bit for the finishing pass to keep those fibres crisp. • Depth of roughly 15–20 mm gives the animal real presence against the recessed background. • Because the outline is asymmetric, plan your stock so the tall corner has support; a sacrificial edge helps avoid tear-out. • Sand only lightly along the flow of the carving so you don't flatten the raised fur detail before oiling.
