Description
A scalloped apron with a dangling drop — trim with a bit of ceremony. This long, low decorative bar is built to run horizontally beneath an edge. Its underside is cut into shallow scallops, punctuated by evenly spaced rosette bosses — little florets of a cross set in a circle. At the centre a raised oval cabochon sits on a small square block, and from it hangs a turned pendant drop, like a miniature finial swinging below the rail. The design is balanced left-to-right and quietly formal. It works as an apron under a shelf or cabinet, a skirt beneath a wall clock or mirror, or a crown along the top of a case piece. Cut notes • The hanging drop projects forward and down — carve the main bar as a flat onlay, and consider machining the pendant as a separate turned or carved part to get full roundness. • Use a fine ball-nose for the rosettes and the beaded neck of the drop; rough the scalloped waste first with a larger bit. • Close-grained hardwood keeps the small circular florets crisp; seal before mounting. • Mount with the scallops facing down so the drop hangs clear, and finish to match the surface it trims.
