Perched Songbird Acanthus Scroll Frieze

A framed ribbon of scrollwork with a little bird perched at either end. This horizontal frieze sits inside a crisp recessed rectangular border, so it arrives ready-composed like a finished plaque. Along the strip, mirrored acanthus scrolls unfurl toward the centre and meet at a small upright palmette leaf; open C-curls and rolled tendrils fill the field between. At each far end a stylised bird faces outward, wings tucked, poised above a tiny cluster of berries — a lovely, lively touch that lifts the ornament above plain foliage. Use it as a running rail on furniture, a band across a headboard or blanket chest, an over-door frieze, or a decorative inset on a cabinet or door panel where a horizontal accent is needed. CNC notes • Two-stage job: pocket the rectangular field first to establish the recessed frame, then carve the foliage relief inside it. • A fine tapered ball-nose or small V-bit will pick out the bird feathers, berry rounds and the tight scroll centres. • Tight-grained hardwood (oak, maple, cherry) holds the small detail; MDF is fine if it will be painted. • Keep the border walls clean and square, then hand-sand only the raised foliage so you don't soften the frame edges. • Mirrors and repeats cleanly if you want a longer border run.
