Description

A full-height column wrapped in a river of carved foliage. This tall cylindrical baluster is sheathed almost end to end in a continuous, interlacing band of acanthus scrolls and curling vine tendrils, sculpted in raised relief so the openwork tracery seems to writhe around the shaft. It is capped by a small foliate capital collar at the top and finished with a plain turned plinth at the foot, framing the ornamental section cleanly. This is a piece for rotary CNC work above all — the pattern runs the full circumference, so it's built to be carved on a 4th-axis / indexer setup from a round blank. Think staircase newel posts, decorative pilasters, bed-post columns, furniture legs, fireplace surrounds or standalone architectural accents for a period interior. Cut / print notes • Ideal on a rotary axis: rough with a ball-nose, then a finer ball-nose finishing pass to catch the undercut vine work. • If you lack a 4th axis, split the model into halves or staves, machine flat, then glue up around a core. • Hardwoods like oak, ash or tulipwood take the flowing detail crisply; seal before staining so the deep recesses don't blotch. • Prints well vertically on resin or FDM for a decorative (non-structural) column; add light supports only where the relief overhangs. • Scale the length to your baluster spacing — the ornament band repeats gracefully if extended.
