Description

Two acanthus scrolls meeting at a shell — a horizontal flourish for plain surfaces. This carved onlay is a wide, symmetrical ornament: from a small central shell-and-palmette knot, twin leafy C-scrolls sweep outward, each curling back on itself into a tight rolled volute before flicking up into a pointed tail. The foliage is softly rounded and generous, catching light along every ridge. It is a mirrored decorative appliqué meant to be applied to, not cut from, a flat panel. Use it as a header above a cabinet door, a centrepiece on a drawer front, a crest over a mirror or doorway, or a running motif along furniture rails. Cut notes • Carve it as a raised onlay on thin stock, then glue and pin it to the finished surface — this keeps the background clean and the relief crisp. • A tight-grained hardwood such as maple, cherry or lime handles the flowing curves without tear-out. • Rough the waste with an end mill, then finish entirely with a small ball-nose so the scroll surfaces stay smooth and rounded. • Because it is perfectly symmetrical, machine two and mirror them for opposing corners; stain or paint to match the host piece before mounting.
