Description

A scallop shell fanned open between two curling acanthus wings, a classic furniture crest. This warm-toned relief is a symmetrical centre onlay: a scallop shell rises in the middle, its fluted ribs radiating from a small knot at the base into a rounded fan, flanked by mirrored acanthus scrolls that curl outward and taper to feathered tips. It is pure cabinetmaker's ornament, the sort of crest that sits at the top of a mirror, a headboard, a door panel or a mantel. Woodworkers and restorers will use it as a glue-on applique; it also prints happily as a decorative wall or furniture accent. Print and CNC notes: • Made for CNC relief carving: rough with a ball-nose, then finish the shell flutes and scroll cores with a fine tapered ball for smooth transitions. • Keep it symmetrical about the centre line when you size it so it lands dead-centre on your workpiece. • For 3D printing, lay it flat and face-up; the shallow relief needs no support and sands easily for painting or gilding. • Distress it with a dark glaze in the recesses to bring the shell ribs forward against a lighter timber.
