Description

Old-world cabinetmaker's flourish, carved in one piece. This is a decorative onlay in the classic cartouche style. At its heart sits a smooth raised oval boss, framed on each side by paired acanthus C-scrolls that curl inward like ram's horns and toss up a spray of feathered leaves. Below the medallion, a symmetrical foliate base unfurls: twin scrolls roll back-to-back from a central palmette drop, trailing serrated acanthus leaves and small beaded accents out to the wings. The whole ornament is bilaterally symmetric and reads as a crest or centrepiece. That blank oval is the clever part; it is ready to receive a monogram, a house number, a date, or simply stay smooth as a polished cabochon. Makers use pieces like this as furniture appliqués, over-door or over-mirror crests, headboard centres, clock or cabinet embellishments, and picture-frame toppers. CNC and print notes: • This is a relief onlay, not a freestanding object, so carve or print it against a flat back and glue it onto the host surface. • On a router, a ball-nose finishing pass brings out the leaf veining and the rolled scroll cores; leave a little machining allowance around the oval if you plan to hand-detail it. • Printed in resin it takes paint, gilt cream or a stained-and-wiped antiqued finish very well. • Scale it to the furniture: keep the leaf ridges from getting too fine at small sizes or the detail flattens out.
