Latticed Acanthus Cartouche Onlay

A crested shield framed in acanthus wings, its heart woven in fine lattice. This horizontal onlay centres on a rounded cartouche whose face is filled with a tight diamond lattice, a fish-scale net texture that reads almost like woven cane. Around it, pairs of C-scroll acanthus curl inward, rising to a small fluted palmette shell at the very top and dropping to a matching scallop shell at the bottom. From the middle, two long acanthus leaf "wings" sweep outward to left and right, thinning as they go and finishing in tightly rolled tips. The effect is squarely Baroque/Rococo, the kind of ornament you would expect crowning a period cabinet. It is designed to sit as an over-door pediment, a headboard or cabinet crest, a fireplace overmantel accent or a mirror crown, anywhere a wide, symmetrical flourish is wanted. CNC / print notes • Relief carve it: a roughing pass to clear stock, then a ballnose finishing pass for the rounded leaf lobes and scroll rolls. • Switch to a fine V-bit or small tapered ballnose for the diamond lattice so the net stays sharp and even. • Oak or walnut for a natural finish; tulipwood or paint-grade MDF where it will be painted or gilded. • The outer wing tips are delicate, so glue-mount with care and size the piece to your door or panel width before cutting.
