Acanthus Palmette Frieze Panel

A slim architectural frieze that runs a ribbon of ornament along any edge. This horizontal panel is a symmetrical composition of scrolling acanthus and shell-like palmettes: a bold central fan flanked by sweeping foliate wings that curl back into tight volutes, all bordered by a neat twisted-rope moulding framing the design top and bottom. The open ground between motifs reads as pierced carving, giving it a light, lacy feel despite the crisp relief. It's built for length — mount it as an over-door frieze, a cabinet cornice, a bed-frame rail, a fireplace panel or a repeating course along cabinetry. Because the pattern is balanced left-to-right, several can be butted end to end for a continuous decorative band. CNC notes • Rough with a 1/8" end mill, then finish with a small tapered ball-nose to sharpen the palmette flutes and rope twist. • Decide early whether to pocket the background flat for an applied panel, or cut fully through for a pierced, see-through fret. • Tight-grained hardwood or a quality MDF both carve well; MDF suits a painted finish, hardwood a natural or gilded one. • Keep relief around 10–15 mm so the layered scrolls cast good shadow. • Sand the raised faces lightly and leave the recesses crisp; a dark wax in the grooves lifts the whole pattern.
