Baroque Acanthus Bed Crown Crest

A sweeping Baroque crest, all scrolls and blossoms, built to crown something grand. At its heart is a raised shell-like cartouche flanked by symmetrical acanthus leaves that unfurl and curl back on themselves, sprouting small open flowers along the way. The foliage tapers outward and dips into two long, downturned corner brackets — the kind that break over the top corners of a headboard, mirror or cabinet. Everything mirrors cleanly left to right, with the deepest relief at the centre boss and the carving thinning gracefully toward the tips. It's aimed at furniture restorers and makers dressing up a bed crown, an over-mantel, a wardrobe pediment or a large mirror frame, and at anyone wanting an ornate focal crest for a period-style room. CNC notes • This is a true 3D relief: rough with a ball-nose, then finish with a fine tapered ball-nose to reach into the tight scroll pockets. • Deep undercuts on the curled scroll tips may want a follow-up with a hand gouge or a stepped multi-side approach. • Choose a stable, close-grained hardwood or dense MDF so the slender leaf tips and corner brackets don't chip. • Cut the piece oversized on the blank and leave tabs at the corner brackets; they're delicate until released.
