Acanthus Flourish Corner Onlay

A flourish of acanthus that softens any hard right angle. This is a corner onlay — an L-shaped appliqué designed to tuck into the angle of a frame, door or cabinet and let carved foliage spill diagonally into the empty field. Two big C-scroll volutes coil at the corner like a pair of ferns unrolling, and from them flow feathered acanthus leaves, tapering tendrils and a long trailing frond that runs down one edge. The carving is asymmetric on purpose, so it reads as growth rather than a stamped motif. Glued onto a flat surface it lifts plain joinery instantly: the corners of a mirror or picture frame, the top rails of a cabinet, a headboard, a door stile, or the apron of a table. Because it is a single corner, you mirror the file to build a matched left-and-right pair, or all four corners of a frame. Print / CNC notes • Treat it as a raised onlay: cut the relief, then part it from a flat backing for gluing. • Mirror the geometry to produce the opposing corner — most jobs need at least a left/right set. • A ballnose finishing pass keeps the scroll volutes and leaf veins smooth; avoid too coarse a stepover or the curls flatten. • Walnut or oak for a natural show-wood look; a tight-grained paint-grade stock (tulipwood, MDF) if it will be sprayed.
