Greek Key Floral Bed Panel

A grand classical bed front, dense with scrolling foliage and running Greek-key borders. This carved panel is built like the face of an ornate bed or heavy sideboard. Two tall square end pillars anchor the composition, each filled with symmetrical acanthus scrollwork radiating from a central medallion rosette and framed by a raised bead. Between them runs a horizontal field split into bands: a top rail of meander (Greek key) fret, a wide central frieze of blooming flowers and curling vines, another key border, and a lower panel repeating the floral scroll. The relief is deep and confident, the flowers rounded and the leaves undercut so shadows sit properly in the recesses. It is aimed at furniture makers, restorers and CNC carvers producing headboards, cabinet fronts, mantels or architectural feature panels in a classical or baroque register. Cutting notes • A three-stage toolpath works best: rough clearance, a semi-finish, then a tapered ball-nose finish pass to sharpen the fret corners and floral centres. • Close-grained hardwoods (beech, oak, tulipwood) or dense MDF for painted finishes hold the fine acanthus tips cleanly. • The design tiles logically — the central frieze can be lengthened, and the end pillars mirrored, to fit different bed or cabinet widths. • For a resin/FDM decorative print, run it flat, face-up, support-free, then gild or lime-wax to lift the raised ornament from the ground. Scale the whole piece to your frame and mind grain direction across the long meander runs to avoid tear-out.
