Arched Rococo Acanthus Crest

A frothing wave of Rococo scrollwork, frozen mid-curl for the top of a cabinet or mirror. This is a symmetrical crest carving — an arched header that rises to a gentle peak, crowned at its centre by a small upright palmette flanked by tight C-scrolls. Below the arch runs a second, lighter tier of foliage: paired acanthus tendrils that uncoil outward, meet a scalloped shell dip in the middle, and finish in rolled volutes with little beaded buds at each wing tip. The relief is soft and rounded rather than sharp, all flowing shoulders and scooped hollows, so raking light pools beautifully along its ridges. It is made to sit as a topper — over a wardrobe door, a headboard, an overmantel mirror, a clock hood or the frieze of a display cabinet — where its low, wide silhouette bridges the piece and lifts the eye upward. Print / cut notes • Cut flat on the panel; the whole design is a single relief with no undercuts, so it clears cleanly in one setup. • Rough with a 1/4" end mill, then finish with a 1/8" or smaller tapered ball-nose to keep the scroll hollows crisp. • Hardwood such as oak, walnut or tulipwood suits it, though it also machines cleanly in dense MDF for a painted or gilded finish. • Printing in resin instead? Lay it face-up, support only the back, and it becomes a light appliqué you can glue straight onto furniture.
