Description
A matched pair of acanthus scrolls, curling apart like a butterfly opening its wings. This CNC onlay is a symmetrical left-and-right set. Each half is a plume of acanthus leaf that furls into a tight spiral over a small rosette button, then feathers outward into a long, tapering frond. Set nose to nose as shown, the two form a graceful open-centred crest; pulled apart, they mirror exactly to trim either end of a panel, drawer or door. It's the classical appliqué that furniture restorers and cabinetmakers keep reaching for — the corners of a mirror frame, the apron of a table, a headboard, a mantel, or the top rail of a cupboard. The rolling leaf lobes and scroll eye throw plenty of light and shadow once finished. CNC notes • Machine both halves on a single blank to hold the mirror match dead-on; a ball-nose toolpath rounds the lobes while a tapered bit reaches into the tight scroll curl. • Beech, tulipwood or a paint-grade hardwood all cut cleanly — leave the thin frond tips backed by stock until the final pass to avoid tear-out. • 3D-printing the pair? Each scroll sits back-down on the plate at 0.1 mm, and the flat reverse glues straight onto the workpiece. • Finish with stain, gilding cream or paint to match the host piece.
