Description

A downward cascade of baroque acanthus, carved to crown a doorway or cabinet. This is a symmetrical decorative onlay in full baroque spirit. A small flame-like finial sits at the top, above a central bead flanked by two tightly wound scroll volutes; from there, feathered acanthus leaves sweep outward and then plunge down in a fanned, layered spray that narrows to a pointed leaf pendant. The relief is deep and flowing, the leaf edges rolling over one another so light rakes across every ridge. It is an ornament meant to be applied, not stood alone: glue or pin it to a cabinet door, a mirror or headboard crest, a mantel frieze, the apron of a table, or the top rail of a door casing. Furniture restorers and cabinetmakers will recognise it as a classic appliqué. CNC / print notes • Single-sided relief with a flat back — ideal for a 3-axis router. • Rough with an end mill, then finish with a tapered ball-nose bit to keep the leaf undercuts clean. • Cuts beautifully in oak, walnut, beech or paint-grade tulipwood; it also prints well as a resin or FDM onlay. • Keep the back flat for gluing, and scale the width to match your panel before carving. • If FDM printing, lay it face-up and it needs almost no support.
