Description

A plump, wing-flanked shell cartouche with real bodied presence. This crest ornament centres on a swollen, lobed shell — a rounded palmette bulb split by a soft central groove — that rises out of a fluted fan at the bottom, its radiating flutes fanning out like a scallop. To either side, two symmetrical acanthus wings sweep up and curl back on themselves, each ending in a tight spiral volute with a small feathered leaf tucked beneath. The result is compact, full and high-domed, reading almost like a stylised winged emblem framing the shell at its heart. It works as a keystone-style accent over a door or arch, a crest on a drawer front or cabinet, a mirror or clock topper, or the centrepiece of a symmetrical furniture composition. Its rounded fullness makes it a natural focal point rather than a background filler. Cutting & print notes • This is a tall relief — give it plenty of Z depth so the domed shell and the volute rolls keep their volume; a shallow cut will flatten its character. • The back is flat for mounting; the piece is mirror-symmetric about its vertical centre. • The wing volutes carry genuine undercuts — resin printing renders them fully, while 3-axis routing needs a fine ball-nose and will read them as deep relief. • Cut the fluted fan with a V-bit for crisp ribs, then finishing-pass the shell dome smooth. • Sand, then gild or antique-glaze so the deep side shadows do the dramatic work. A bold little cartouche that anchors a traditional scheme.
