Description

Two mirrored scroll-loops braided around a single blooming rosette — a pierced panel full of air and movement. This is an open fretwork design: slim ribbons cross in a tall figure-eight, curling into paired heart-scrolls at top and bottom, and at the crossing point they cradle a round eight-petal rosette with a domed centre. The negative space is as much a part of the design as the carving, so it casts lively shadows against whatever sits behind it. Makers use pierced panels like this as balustrade or gate infills, radiator-cover inserts, cabinet-door grilles, headboard accents or wall art. Backed with a contrasting colour it becomes a striking framed piece. Print notes: • This is a cut-through openwork part: on CNC, profile-cut the voids with tabs so the piece stays fixed until the final release pass. • Mind the thin ribbon widths against your material and bit diameter — a smaller bit or a harder wood helps avoid breakout on the delicate loops. • For 3D printing, lay it flat on the bed and print at 0.12 mm; the rosette centre is the only raised area, so no supports are needed lying flat. • Keep infill low and walls higher for strength across the slim strands. • Sand the edges of the cut-outs and ease the loop corners so the ribbons flow smoothly. Mirror or stack the panel to build longer runs, and choose a wood or painted finish that contrasts with the wall behind so the openwork reads clearly.
