Mourning Angel Oval Relief

A mourning angel bows her head inside a swirl of baroque scrollwork. This oval relief centres on a winged female figure in a long gown, standing with head lowered and hands softly folded, one arm resting against a draped plinth in a tender, contemplative pose. Around her the carved frame erupts into acanthus leaves, C-scrolls and a fan-shaped shell at the foot, capped by a feathered plume crest at the top. It is a proper piece of decorative ornament, equal parts memorial and heirloom. Designed as a CNC relief, it suits sign-carvers and woodworkers after a showpiece: hang it as wall art, inset it into a headboard or door panel, or machine it as a memorial plaque for a chapel or garden of remembrance. Print notes • For CNC, machine on a flat blank; rough with a large ball-nose, then finish with a 1 to 2 mm tapered ball for the feathers, leaf veins and the angel's face. • Choose a fine-grained hardwood such as lime, cherry or maple, or dense MDF, for crisp detail with minimal tear-out. • 3D printing instead? Lay it face-up for almost no support, and drop layer height to 0.08 to 0.12 mm to hold the ornament. • Finish with gilding wax on the frame and a soft satin varnish, or paint the figure alabaster-white against a stained ground.
