Open-Ring Acanthus Medallion Cartouche

An open-centred medallion cartouche — a plain ring cradled in flaring acanthus, waiting for a clock, monogram or mirror. The top is a smooth circular band left deliberately blank; beneath and around it, symmetrical acanthus scrolls curl upward like wings, and a central fluted shell-and-leaf drop anchors the base. The empty ring is the whole point of the design — it frames whatever you set inside it, whether that's a clock insert, a carved house number, a small round mirror or a monogram roundel. Rounded, generous relief gives the scrolls a soft, hand-carved feel. Mount it as a wall crest, over a doorway, or as a decorative surround on a cabinet or headboard. Print / CNC notes • A two-depth job: cut the ring and scrolls in medium 3D relief, and either leave the centre as solid board or pocket it right through for a true open aperture. • Finish the rounded scroll rolls with a ball-nose pass; watch the thin leaf tips at the outer edges, which are the most fragile part. • Flat-backed onlay — glue-mount to a panel, door or wall board. • Size the inner ring to your clock movement or mirror before you cut, so the insert seats cleanly.
