Description

A slender vertical drop, shaped like a feather standing on end. This ornament is built around a single central rod that runs top to bottom, dressed on both sides with layered acanthus leaflets that flare out into an elongated diamond and taper back to points at each tip. Right at the waist, three graduated spheres, a big bead cupped by two smaller ones, cluster like berries at the heart of the leaf, catching the light where the carving is deepest. It is the kind of narrow accent that dresses the awkward tall-and-thin spaces: pilaster faces, the stiles of a cabinet door, table and chair legs, the sides of a mirror frame, or paired as mirror-image drops flanking a larger centrepiece. Because it is symmetrical top-to-bottom as well as side-to-side, you can mount it either way up. Cut notes • Long and thin means grain direction matters most, run it lengthwise so the pointed tips don't break away at the machine or during clean-up. • The three-bead cluster wants a small ball-nose (1.5–2mm) to keep the spheres round; rough the leaf field first with a larger bit. • Beech, oak or lime all carve well here; MDF is fine if it will be painted. • Leave a little sacrificial stock around the tips and part it off by hand for the cleanest points.
