Description

A fountain of carved acanthus, frozen the moment it fans open. A vertical furniture cartouche in full Baroque dress. At its heart a ribbed palmette flares upward into a flame-like crest, capped by a small budded finial; below it a pair of scrolled volutes curl inward like rams' horns, and the whole thing is cradled by broad, deeply undercut acanthus leaves that sweep down and out. A single leaf-drop hangs at the base to close the composition. It reads as classic 18th-century ornament — the sort of centre-piece that crowns a cabinet, dresses a chair crest rail, or anchors the top of a door panel. Symmetrical and richly layered, it rewards a light-and-shadow finish: gilding, dark wax over a pale base, or paint picked out in the recesses. Print / CNC notes • Deep relief with strong undercuts — for CNC a 3-axis pass gets most of it, but the curled volutes benefit from a steep finishing angle or a 4th-axis flip. • Ball-nose finishing at a fine stepover keeps the leaf veining crisp; blow chips clear of the tight scroll pockets. • Printing in resin gives the sharpest curl detail; orient face-up at a slight tilt and support only the overhanging volute lips. • Tight-grained hardwoods carve cleanest; seal the end-grain on the leaf tips before finishing.
