Curved Cartouche Foliate Onlay

A carved cartouche that curves with the furniture instead of fighting it. This CNC onlay is a shallow, gently bowed band built around an ornamental centrepiece: a smooth oval boss ringed along its lower edge by a row of beaded petals, framed by symmetrical foliate scrolls that flick outward into leafy tips. The relief is concentrated in the middle and fades into a clean curved ground, so it flows along an arched rail rather than sitting stiff and flat. That curved profile makes it a natural fit for the apron beneath a table or console, the shaped rail of a headboard, a longcase or bracket clock hood, or the crown of an arched cabinet — anywhere a straight onlay would look wrong. Being mirror-symmetrical, it centres itself on a curved front without measuring twice. Print / CNC notes • Rout on a matching curved or over-thick blank so the appliqué's own arc survives when you part it off; a flat blank works if you only want the centre motif. • Finish with a small ballnose (1.5–2mm) to keep the beaded petals and scroll fillets defined. • Reach for a close-grained hardwood — walnut, maple, pear — for clean edges on the fine beading. • Printing rather than cutting? Lay it face-up and flat; the shallow relief self-supports.
