Description

A rolling ribbon of carved acanthus that turns a plain edge into something worth looking at. This CNC relief is a long, horizontal decorative onlay: a symmetrical run of C-scrolls that unfurl from a central palmette shell, with two small upright leaf sprigs anchoring each end. The carving stands proud of a smooth, banner-like ground, so once it is machined and parted off it reads as a single sculpted crest rather than a busy repeating pattern. It is built for the tops of things — the frieze above a cabinet door, the crown of a mirror or headboard, a fireplace overmantel, or the apron beneath a mantel shelf. Because the design is mirror-balanced left to right, it centres cleanly on any panel and can be stretched or shrunk to whatever width your piece needs. Print / CNC notes • Machine it as a raised appliqué on a backing board, then release it and glue onto the finished piece. • Rough the field with a flat/roughing pass, then a ballnose finishing pass (2–3mm) to keep the scroll fillets crisp. • A tight-grained hardwood — beech, cherry, tulipwood — holds the fine leaf tips far better than softwood. • If you are 3D printing instead of routing, lay it flat and print face-up; the shallow relief needs no supports.
