Description

A slender cascade of carved leaves for dressing plain furniture. This vertical onlay is built for symmetry: a pointed acanthus finial crowns the top, unfurls into paired C-scrolls, and flows down through a central oval cartouche before mirroring itself into a matching leafy tail at the bottom. The middle medallion sits slightly proud, its smooth shield ringed by a beaded border, giving the eye a calm centre among all the movement. Every curl is undercut just enough to throw a shadow, so the appliqué looks carved in place rather than stuck on. This is the sort of ornament cabinetmakers reach for to lift a flat door, a headboard stile, a tall clock case or a mirror surround from ordinary to bespoke. Run a mirrored pair down either side of a wardrobe and plain MDF suddenly looks like an heirloom. Print notes: • Machine it as a shallow relief onlay on a 3-axis router; the flat back glues straight to the workpiece. • A 6mm ball-nose clears the main scrolls; drop to a 1–2mm tapered bit for the beading and leaf veins. • Choose a tight-grained hardwood such as beech, pear or lime so the fine tips do not crumble. • If you 3D print it instead, lay it face-up in a paint-friendly filament, then prime and gild or antique to match its host piece.
