Description

A sweeping horizontal flourish — mirrored scrolls unfurling from a central crown. This is a decorative onlay carved in low relief along a flat strip: at its heart sits a small crowned cartouche, banded like a tassel, from which two acanthus C-scrolls roll outward in perfect mirror symmetry. Each scroll tucks into a curled volute at the tips and drops a small leaf spray beneath, so the whole piece reads as a graceful pediment header that widens gently from the ends toward the raised centre. The soft satin render shows how the relief rises smoothly off its backing without deep undercuts. It's the kind of applied ornament that dresses up an otherwise plain surface instantly. Glue it on as a furniture crest, a cabinet or wardrobe header, the top rail of a mirror or door, a mantel centrepiece, or a headboard flourish. CNC notes • A shallow relief carve: a roughing pass plus a ball-nose finishing pass renders the scrolls and leaf veining faithfully. • Orient the blank with its long axis along the grain so the sweeping scrolls don't cross short grain and chip at the volute tips. • Because it's an applied onlay, keep a flat, clean back face for gluing — no need to profile the reverse. • Poplar, basswood or lime carve smooth for a paint finish; choose oak or walnut if you want the ornament to show natural grain under oil or wax.
