Asymmetric Rococo Scroll Onlay

A ribbon of rococo scrollwork that spills sideways across a panel. Two big C-scrolls whip out to the left and right, each winding down into a tight snail curl, while a central fan of slim leaves sprays upward and a couple of round buds nestle at the base. It is asymmetric on purpose — one flourish is meant to answer another on the far side of a door or drawer. Cabinetmakers and restorers reach for pieces like this to dress cabinet doors, headboards, over-mantels, mirror crowns and clock cases. Glued flat to a plain surface, it turns something ordinary into something that looks turned-out and expensive. Making it • As a CNC onlay the relief is shallow and V-bit / ball-nose friendly; run it in a close-grained wood like maple or lime that won't tear on the fine curls. • Printed flat-backed on resin it gives crisp scroll tips; on FDM, lay the flat face to the bed and skip supports entirely. • Mirror the file in your slicer or CAM to make the matching left/right pair for a symmetrical layout. • Once mounted, a dark glaze wiped into the recesses and buffed off the high scrolls fakes centuries of patina.
