Description

A slim horizontal onlay with a burst of carved scrollwork at its heart. This is a decorative appliqué moulding: a long, thin, tapering rail that reads almost flat at the ends, then swells in the centre into a symmetrical flourish of acanthus-style leaves and rolled scrolls flanking a pair of little beaded volutes. The relief is shallow and clean, catching light along the raised curls — classic cabinetmaker's trim rather than a heavy carving. It is built to be applied, not to stand alone. Glue or pin it along the top rail of a cabinet, the header above a door or archway, a mirror or picture frame crest, a headboard, or the apron of a mantel. The gentle taper means it draws the eye toward the ornamented middle, making it a natural centrepiece band for a wider panel. Cut it in hardwood on a CNC for real furniture restoration, or 3D-print it as a paint-and-mount decoration for MDF projects and upcycles. Cut / print notes • CNC: a fine tapered ball-nose bit (2–3mm) picks out the scroll detail; leave a flat margin at each end for clean clamping and gluing. • Rough the whole field first with a larger bit, then finish-pass only the central motif to save time. • 3D print flat, relief-up, no supports; 0.12mm layers keep the leaf edges sharp. • Sand the back flat for a gap-free glue line, and seal before staining so the grain takes evenly.
