Description

Four furling acanthus leaves clasped into an open oval. This decorative onlay is built from paired, scrolling acanthus fronds that curl in from top and bottom, each terminating in a plump rounded bud where the leaves meet. The centre is left open, so the piece frames whatever it surrounds — a mirror, a clock face, an inset panel or a carved motif on a cabinet door. The carving is deep and flowing, with crisp leaf veins and rolled tips that throw soft shadow lines across the surface. It's a classic architectural flourish for furniture makers, restorers and anyone dressing up a plain door, headboard or overmantel in a traditional style. Cut & print notes: • Ideal deep-relief CNC work: rough out the volume, then finish with a fine ball-nose to sharpen the veining and the rolled leaf edges. • Lime, mahogany or tulipwood carve smoothly and take detail well; mind the grain direction on the thin scroll tips. • As a 3D print, lay it face up and flat — the relief self-supports; 0.12 mm layers keep the leaf detail sharp. • Glue-and-clamp onto the host surface, then stain or gild to match; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses deepens the relief.
