Scrolled Acanthus Cartouche Onlay

A wide, wing-like flourish of scrollwork crowned by a single teardrop drop. This horizontal onlay is built on mirror symmetry. From a central boss hangs a smooth teardrop pendant, and from behind it two great outer C-scrolls sweep up and out before curling back into fat spiral volutes at the tips — like a pair of stylised wings. Beneath them, a second, smaller pair of acanthus scrolls rolls inward, their edges feathered into leafy fronds. The relief is generous and rounded, rising proud in the centre and thinning toward the flowing extremities, with soft flutes running through the leaves. Use it as a crest or centrepiece: mounted above a door or archway as a small pediment ornament, at the top of a mirror or picture frame, along a cabinet cornice, or as the central medallion on a headboard or fireplace surround. Its long, low proportions suit any horizontal span that needs a focal flourish. Print / cut notes • The back is flat, so print or route it face-up for a smooth rear that beds down flat against the host surface. • CNC in a hardwood with a tapered ball-nose bit to sweep cleanly through the volutes and leaf flutes; resin FDM captures the crisp spirals for smaller trims. • Overhangs are gentle thanks to the flat back — expect little to no support, perhaps a touch under the deepest scroll undercuts. • Fill any layer lines, then paint, stain, wax or gild to match the surrounding woodwork.
