Description

A carved curtain swag frozen in timber. This decorative onlay is a draped valance: a length of sculpted fabric that dips in a gentle sag between two ends, gathered and tied at each side into a rolled tassel behind a small carved rosette. At the centre sits an ornate cartouche, a fan of rounded palmette lobes above a smooth oval boss, flanked by scrolling volutes and finished below with a little shell of beads. The cloth folds are deeply cut and softly rounded, so the whole thing catches light like real swagged drapery. Furniture makers and interior fitters use swags like this above doorways, on cornices and pelmets, across the frieze of a cabinet or fireplace, or as a headboard crown: instant classical grandeur on an otherwise plain surface. Print / CNC notes • The long, low relief suits a wide flat blank; a bull-nose or ball-nose finishing bit keeps the fabric folds soft and continuous after a quick roughing pass. • Machine or print it face-up and flat; there are no overhangs to fight, so you won't need supports. • The rolled tassel ends are the deepest points, so take a finishing pass with a smaller ball-nose there to reach the base of the folds cleanly. • Beautiful in lime, oak or a paint-grade board; on a 3D print, a dark wash pulled into the drapery folds and a light sand on the raised cloth makes the swag look genuinely soft.
