Description

A winged flourish to crown a door, mirror or cabinet. This symmetrical onlay spreads low and wide, built around a central palmette that rises from a small banded collar with a fleur-de-lis flick at its tip. From that heart, two long acanthus leaves sweep outward and slightly down like a pair of wings, each furling into a soft feathered curl at the very ends. The relief is shallow and even, the leaf channels smoothly rounded rather than sharp, making it an elegant, restrained bit of trim rather than a busy one. It's the kind of appliqué that finishes the top rail of a cabinet door, sits above a mirror or bathroom cabinet, or centres a headboard. Because it's flat-backed it glues straight onto a finished surface. CNC notes: • A shallow relief like this cuts happily in MDF, pine or hardwood, and grain direction matters little. • Rough with a 6mm ball-nose and finish with a 2mm ball for the leaf veins and curls. • Leave a small flat margin around the piece when nesting so you can part it off cleanly. • Prime and paint, or stain and wax; the smooth flanks take gilding wax especially well.
