Fan Rosette Acanthus Moulding Onlay

A carved flourish that turns a plain panel into a period piece. This is a long, gently undulating decorative onlay built around a central fan-shaped rosette that opens like a stylised daisy, ringed by a beaded collar and cradled by mirrored acanthus scrolls. From that centrepiece the moulding sweeps outward in a soft S-curve, its edges chamfered into slim, ribbon-like reveals that taper away to nothing at the tips. It is the ornament cabinetmakers and restorers reach for to dress the top rail of a door, the apron of a console table, a headboard or the crown of a mirror frame. Because the design is perfectly symmetrical left to right, it centres itself over any span without fuss. Print / CNC notes • Carve in a tight-grained hardwood (basswood, cherry, walnut) so the scroll tips hold their edge; a 60-degree V-bit cleans the crevices a ball-nose pass can't reach. • Keep relief depth modest, around 6-10mm, if you plan to glue it on as an applied onlay rather than pocketing it into the surface. • On an FDM printer, lay it flat and print face-up; the shallow relief needs no supports. • Seal with a sanding sealer before stain, or the open scrollwork will drink pigment unevenly and blotch.
