Acanthus Scroll Pediment Onlay

A sweeping scrollwork crest to crown a door, mirror or headboard. This is a symmetrical horizontal onlay built around a central upright palmette — an acanthus fan of feathered leaves rising to a curled tip. From either side of that fan, two mirrored C-scroll volutes sweep outward, their spirals trailing into flicked, veined leaf tips at the far ends. The relief is low to moderate and the whole thing flows as one continuous, graceful line, so it sits flat and elegant against a plain ground. It is a classic centre crest: over-door pediments, mirror and picture-frame tops, cabinet aprons, clock cases, and headboards all take it well. CNC & print notes • Despite the airy, pierced look, this is a raised applique on a flat backing plane — carve or print it, then glue it to the surface. • Use a fine V-bit for the crisp leaf veins and a ball-nose for the rounded volutes and the fan. • The overall depth is slim, which keeps it light and easy to bond onto furniture. • Run it in hardwood for carving or resin for casting; if you need a wider crest, mirror the two halves and extend the flat centre to bridge the gap.
