Description

Two tulips in mid-bloom rising from a fountain of curling leaves. A delicate vertical onlay built for the top of a panel or the centre of a cabinet rail. At its heart a slim stem climbs into a little crown of foliage topped by two stacked beads, like a finial; to either side a stylised tulip flower opens outward, and beneath them the design fans into scrolling C-curves and pointed leaves that sweep down and roll under at the tips. It is lighter and airier than a solid acanthus carving, with plenty of open space around the forms, which reads as elegant rather than heavy. It is ideal for headboards, wardrobe doors, mirror crestings and clock cases where you want a floral accent without bulk. Because the relief is shallow and lacy, it also prints cleanly as a glue-on appliqué. Cut notes • Relief is low, so 6 to 10 mm of stock is plenty; do not over-thicken or you lose the delicacy. • The thin scroll tips are fragile, so finish with a small ball nose and take a light final pass to avoid tear-out. • Orientation: flat and single-sided; the fine stems would print as brittle filaments if run upright. • Finish: because the negative space matters, keep the backer clean, and let a painted or veneered ground behind the carving sell the effect.
