Description

A slim, wing-spread cartouche, all sweep and symmetry. The centre of this horizontal onlay is a small upright fan, ribbed like a clam shell, from which two mirror-image C-scrolls roll away to left and right. Each scroll wraps around a smooth round bead, then extends into a long, gently rippled acanthus tongue that thins and lifts at the outer tips. The relief is low and elegant rather than deep and dramatic, and the shape is broad and shallow, essentially a decorative bar with lift at both ends. Use it wherever a discreet horizontal flourish is needed: above a cabinet door or drawer, as a centred motif on a rail or apron, over a mirror or picture frame, or along the top of a headboard. Its restrained height means it can also be applied to a painted MDF panel without looking heavy. Making notes • Excellent for CNC because the forms are open and flowing, a ball-nose bit clears the scroll eyes and the shell flutes with minimal fuss, and the shallow relief means short cut times. • The two beads are the only spots that want a careful finishing pass to stay perfectly round. • 3D printing is straightforward: flat back on the bed, carved side up, and generally no supports thanks to the gentle relief. • Paint it to match your surface, then rub a contrasting glaze into the scroll recesses to make the curls read from across the room.
