Description

A long, low frieze where the surface ripples like soft drapery caught mid-fall. This CNC relief is a slim horizontal band carved with a gently undulating wave — a run of shallow crests and troughs that dip to a soft point at the centre and roll outward to feathered ends. Nothing about it is busy; the beauty lies in the restrained, almost fabric-like flow of the moulded surface, which catches raking light along its whole length. It's designed as a decorative trim: a header above a cabinet door, a rail across drawer fronts, a cornice band, or an accent strip framing a mirror or panelled wall. The quiet, contemporary curve sits happily in both traditional and modern joinery. Cut it into a straight-grained hardwood — maple, oak or walnut — for the crispest reflections. Cut notes • Run it as a 2.5D V-carve or shallow 3D relief; a ball-nose finishing pass keeps the wave surface smooth. • Depth is modest, so a single roughing pass plus one finishing pass is usually enough. • Repeat it end-to-end for longer runs — the wave is drawn to tile along its length. • Sand lightly with the grain; the low relief takes stain and wax beautifully.
