Description

Flowing acanthus scrollwork that draws the eye straight to the middle of a panel. This is a long, horizontal ornament built on perfect left-right symmetry. At the centre a slim pointed palmette stands upright like a stylised flame, flanked by curling leaf blades that twist into tight C-scrolls. From there the design unfurls outward, each side mirroring the other with sweeping tendrils that hook back on themselves and taper to a fine curl at the tips. The relief is rounded and generous, so the scrolls read like ribbon caught in motion rather than flat filigree. It is made to sit above a door, along an apron rail, across a headboard crest, or as the centrepiece of a wide cabinet frieze, wherever a plain horizontal run needs a focal flourish. Because it is an applied onlay, it glues straight onto finished surfaces once carved, letting you add classical detail without cutting into the workpiece. Print notes: • Machine as a 3D relief; a roughing pass then a tapered ball-nose finish keeps the scroll edges smooth. • Mind the delicate tip curls, leave them slightly thicker in softwoods to avoid break-out. • Lime, walnut, or a tight MDF all carve this cleanly for gilding or paint. • Ease the sharp palmette point by hand so it survives handling and mounting.
