Baroque Palmette Scroll Onlay

A flowing scrolled crest that mirrors itself in perfect symmetry. This decorative onlay opens at the top with a heart-shaped palmette, a fluted, shell-like fan pinched to a point, then unfurls left and right into mirrored C-scrolls that roll down and coil into tight snail-curl terminals, each finished with a small raised bead. A slender central drop anchors the composition. The relief is soft and rounded, catching light along every curl, and the flat back is made to sit flush against a surface. Glue it on as a furniture crest, a cabinet-door centre, a headboard or mirror-frame ornament, or a panel accent above a doorway. Print notes • Shallow enough for a two-stage cut: a V-bit to define the scroll channels, then a ball-nose to round the volutes. • Machine it in lime or beech for carving, or print it in resin for a fast, paintable applique. • Keep an onion-skin tab or two on the outline so the piece doesn't shift on the final pass, then part it free and sand the back flat. • Stain or gild to match the host piece; a wiped glaze in the recesses deepens the scrollwork.
