Description

A running band of windblown leaves, carved in shallow relief. This CNC panel lays three loose clusters of broad, deeply-veined leaves across a rectangular ground, each leaf fanning open with crisp radial ribs and curling tips, linked by a slender bare twig that reaches toward the right end. The lower edge sweeps in a gentle concave arc, so the strip reads as a flowing frieze rather than a rigid border. It's designed to run horizontally — a rail above a door, a crown band on a cabinet, a decorative course on a headboard or fireplace surround. Mirror the file end-to-end and you can extend the motif along a longer length without an obvious repeat. Cut notes • A close-grained hardwood (oak, walnut, tulipwood) or dense MDF holds the fine leaf veining best. • Rough with a 6mm end mill, then finish the ribs and undercuts with a 2mm or 1.5mm tapered ball nose. • Keep the relief depth modest so the veins stay legible; a light shadow-line at the base edge lifts it off the workpiece. • Sand lightly along the grain and finish with oil or wax — a dark stain wiped back into the recesses really pops the leaf structure.
