Symmetrical Acanthus Leaf Vertical Onlay

Two mirrored acanthus leaves furl toward a central spine like a page caught mid-turn. This is a tall, upright decorative onlay: a pair of deeply lobed leaves sweep outward and curl back on themselves, meeting along a raised central rib that runs the full height. Scrolled volutes cap the top and anchor the bottom, giving the panel a subtle hourglass waist where the leaves pinch inward. The carving is generous and rounded — high through the middle, feathering out to thin, undercut leaf tips. It's the kind of appliqué that dresses a cabinet stile, a door panel, a headboard centre or the leg block of a period-style table. Set vertically it draws the eye upward and flatters tall, narrow surfaces. Print notes • Print or cut it face-up; the back is flat and glues straight onto a workpiece. • On a CNC router, a tapered ball-nose finishing pass follows the flowing leaf grooves nicely — climb-mill the final pass for a clean, fuzz-free surface in hardwood. • For FDM, lay it flat on the bed and lean on 0.1mm layers so the leaf veins and scroll curls stay crisp; no supports required. • Knock back the high leaf crowns before finishing — they grab stain unevenly, and a quick sanding keeps the tone even.
