Wind-Blown Leaf Relief Frieze

Foliage caught mid-gust, carved in flowing relief. This is a horizontal decorative frieze panel with a gently undulating, ribbon-like ground. Across it sweep clusters of broad, deeply veined leaves — heart-shaped and lobed, like mulberry or ivy — grouped at either end and trailing thin stems and secondary blades toward the centre. The carving depth is generous: the leaves lift well proud of the wavy backing plate, their radiating veins cut sharp so raking light throws real shadow. The subtly rippled background gives the whole strip a sense of motion, as if a breeze just passed through. It's made to sit as a running molding — a cabinet rail, a door-frame header, a fireplace frieze, or a length of furniture apron — anywhere a plain flat needs a botanical accent. Print notes / CNC notes • Machine flat on the bed with the relief facing up; rough with a ball-nose, then finish the vein detail with a 1-2 mm tapered ball for crisp lines. • Leave a little material at each end so lengths butt together into a continuous run. • Tight-grained timber (lime, cherry, walnut) holds the undercut leaf edges best; a light sanding sealer stops fuzz in the recesses. • For a painted or resin-print version, keep it flat and support only the highest leaf tips; a brown wash over cream pops the veining instantly. Repeat it end to end and the leaves read as one continuous, living border.
