Description

A classical corbel with acanthus at both ends. This is a decorative bracket in the traditional style: a scrolled acanthus leaf furls over at the top where the corbel would meet a shelf or beam, a smoothly fluted, tapering body runs down the centre, and a second acanthus leaf-tip curls off the bottom to finish it. Carved as a one-sided relief, it is meant to sit flat against a wall or the side of a cabinet and project just its sculpted face. Use it under a floating shelf or mantel, flanking a range hood, as a decorative furniture foot, or as applied ornament on a door or plinth. A mirrored pair frames an opening handsomely. Cut / print notes • On a 3-axis CNC, rough with an end mill then finish the leaf undercuts and flutes with a tapered ball-nose; a fine stepover keeps the acanthus veins sharp. • Oak, sapele, maple and walnut all carve well; poplar or MDF are fine for a painted finish. • As a 3D print, stand it face-up and flat-backed so the ornament needs no supports, then sand the fluting with a folded strip of paper. • Scale the height to your shelf depth and leave the flat rear face for screwing or gluing to the substrate.
