Description

A symmetrical flourish of ruffled acanthus leaves crowned by a central shell and anchored by twin scrolls. This is a horizontal Baroque onlay, far removed from the mandala or lattice the tags imply. At its heart sits a fluted shell or palmette, from which two wide wings of frilled, deeply veined acanthus leaves sweep outward and curl at their tips. At the base, a pair of tight C-scroll volutes turn inward to meet, giving the whole ornament a settled, balanced weight. It is a classic cartouche crest, the kind that finishes the top rail of a cabinet or the apron of a table. Use it as a furniture crest, a door or cabinet apron, a mirror or frame topper, or a standalone wall onlay. Its wide, low proportion makes it ideal for spanning a lintel or the head of a panel. Print notes: • Medium relief on a flat back, a natural fit for a CNC onlay in oak, walnut or lime. • Rough it out, then take a fine ball-nose finishing pass to bring up the leaf veining and the smooth scroll surfaces. • Note the wide aspect ratio: check it against your machine bed or print plate before committing. • For 3D printing, lay it face-up and add light supports only in the undercuts beneath the scroll curls. • Finish with gilding, liming wax or a stain that settles into the recesses to emphasise the depth.
