Acanthus Scroll Oval Onlay

A flourish of carved acanthus curling out from a smooth oval heart. This symmetrical CNC onlay pairs a raised central cabochon — a plain, softly domed oval — with a pair of mirrored scrolls sweeping left and right: fleshy acanthus leaves that furl over into tight C-curls at each tip, with a short run of gadrooned beads cupping the underside of the oval like a little shell. It floats as a self-contained ornament, no backing panel, ready to be applied. This is a classic furniture and cabinetry appliqué. Glue it onto a drawer front, a cabinet door, the crest of a mirror or headboard, a mantel frieze, or the header above a doorway — anywhere a plain surface is asking for a hit of traditional carved detail. Cut notes: • Machine it as a shallow 3D relief on a thin blank, then part it from the waste and mount it as an onlay on the finished surface. • A tapered ball-nose handles the finishing pass; keep the stepover fine so the leaf veins and bead row stay crisp. • Tight-grained woods (cherry, maple, beech, lime) carve cleaner than open-grain oak on ornament this delicate. • Leave the domed oval slightly proud and hand-sand it smooth so it contrasts against the busy scrollwork surrounding it.
