Description

A blank banner just waiting for a name. This piece is a smoothly domed banner plaque — a broad horizontal panel whose short ends draw inward in soft ogee curves, so the whole shape reads like a length of ribbon pulled taut and pinned at the corners. The face is deliberately left plain and gently pillowed, catching light across a subtle convex swell rather than any carved motif. That emptiness is the point: it is a ready-made canvas for a surname, a house number, a workshop logo or a short motto added as a second carving pass or with vinyl and paint. It suits a front-door name sign, a bar or shed plaque, a wedding top-table banner, or the base strip of a trophy. The rounded, hand-worn look sits equally well in a cottage hallway or a modern hall. Cut notes • Works cleanly in hardwood, poplar or MDF; oak gives the crispest edge highlight. • Rough the pocket around the banner, then finish the domed face with a ball-nose bit for that seamless pillow. • Keep the ogee end-tips supported — they are the thinnest points and can chip on the finishing pass. • Sand from 120 up to 240, then paint, gild or wax; a dark glaze wiped into any later lettering makes it pop.
