Description

A symmetrical flourish of scrollwork, light as a pair of unfurling wings. This decorative onlay pairs two mirrored C-scrolls that spiral outward into tight snail-shell curls at the top, then sweep down through a fan of small acanthus leaflets to finish at a rounded button-boss. The whole motif reads like a stylised butterfly or a cresting heart — an ornament meant to sit proud of a flat surface and catch a raking light along its rolled edges. It is a furniture-maker's and restorer's staple: glue it to a cabinet door, a headboard, a mirror frame, a clock case or a drawer front to add instant period character. It works equally well at picture-frame corners or as mantel decoration. Print notes • This is a low-relief appliqué, so print it flat on its back with the carved face up — no supports, and the bed leaves a clean gluing surface. • Fine layers of 0.08–0.12 mm keep the scroll volutes smooth; a light sand then takes wood-effect paint or gilding wax convincingly. • For CNC, run it in hardwood with a tapered ball-nose bit for the tight curls and a small stepover for a finish straight off the machine. • Prime with filler primer to bury layer lines before a walnut stain or antique-gold treatment.
