Cascading Acanthus Drop Onlay

A cascade of carved acanthus that drips down a cabinet door like frozen foliage. This decorative onlay is a classic acanthus drop. It reads top to bottom as a small crown of curling scrolls flanking a raised central boss, then a spine of overlapping, layered leaves that taper and fold away from the centre, finishing in a single elongated teardrop finial at the very base. The carving is soft and rounded — no hard heraldry here, just flowing organic scrollwork with the smooth, satiny surface of a hand-modelled ornament. It's symmetrical, roughly vertical, and designed to be applied as a raised accent rather than to stand alone. This is the sort of appliqué makers use to dress furniture and joinery: the centre of a cabinet door, the apron of a table, a mirror or picture frame, a headboard, or a mantel. It brings an instant period, Baroque-to-Victorian flavour to plain flat panels. Print / cut notes: • As a CNC onlay, cut it in a fine-grained hardwood so the leaf tips and the teardrop don't crumble; a small ball-nose bit handles the scroll curls. • Model has a flat back — glue or pin it straight onto your workpiece, then blend the edges with a little filler for a carved-in-place look. • Printing instead? Lay it face-up flat on the bed for the cleanest surface and minimal supports. • Prime and paint, gild, or stain to match existing timber. Mirror or scale it to build matching pairs for either side of a panel.
